There will be partial lockdown in Damak from Thursday. The municipality has stated that partial fire will be carried out in Damak to control the risk of corona as the infection has been intensifying in Damak recently.
A meeting of the Corona Prevention and Control Coordinating Committee chaired by Mayor Romnath Oli on Tuesday decided to complete the lockdown from 4 pm to 8 am with effect from Wednesday. Deputy Chief Gita Adhikari, who is also the spokesperson of the municipality, said that the decision was taken to control the corona partially but in full. Spokesperson Adhikari said that the bazaars, shops and walkways have been completely closed within that period to prevent unnecessary crowds in the evening.
The meeting also decided to mobilize health workers in the wards to understand the condition of the corona infected and arrange for the necessary health treatment. The municipality is building a 30-bed Covid Hospital there. Though construction has been started to bring it into operation within two months, it has not been completed yet. There has been widespread criticism over the non-operation of Covid Hospital. The deputy chief official said that the municipality would provide oxygen treatment to the hospital. Earlier, industrialists in Damak had suggested a boycott with a ban. The Damak Chamber of Commerce and Industry has also proposed to run a well-equipped Covid Hospital in collaboration with the private sector, said Gokul Shrestha, president of the association.
During the meeting, the representatives of the political and social sectors complained that the local government has not been able to work for the prevention and control of the infection in Damak. He emphasized the need to focus on testing and treatment to control the risk. Some said that it was necessary to work hard to prevent the risk from spreading further. Based on the recommendation of the municipality, the district administration office will issue a restraining order.
